As per a TOI report, ISRO is currently planning to build igloos or lunar habitats on the moon. The work will be started soon to build igloos on the moon through Robots and advanced 3D printing technology by using lunar soil and other such material on the Moon to build Igloos as they said. According to the scientists, these structures will be built through Robots and 3D printing technology.
Talking about the project, M Annadurai, director of ISRO’s Satellite Centre, said, “We are seriously planning to use the moon as an outpost, like missions in Antarctica.” He also included, “In the long run, the international space station is likely to be scrapped. The USA and many countries are thinking about building more permanent structures on the moon and working out of there. At the point when that happens, we would like India to have contributed.” ISRO has developed a working model of the moon igloos. The project has seen progress with a working model which was created using a Robots and advanced 3D printing technology. Scientists have drawn up five designs of the lunar habitats, and hope these igloos contribute to their plans of creating outposts on the Moon. Despite the fact that there’s no mission plan yet, ISRO needs to have the innovation prepared for building these structures.
The Space Scientists have made five designs of the lunar habitat, and the agency is likely to select one final design in coming months. The goal is to have the technology ready when the government gives a green signal to the mission. Moreover, ISRO is trying to build up smart materials for these lunar habitats to ensure the safety of the astronauts who will stay in these structures.
